Welcome to my A2 Media Studies Blog. Here I will present my research and planning for my production of a promotional film trailer alongside two ancillary products; a poster and a magazine cover, where I have tried to incorporate typical codes and conventions of existing media products. On the right hand side is a link to my Foundation Portfolio where you can see my skills development throughout the course, as I adopted new techniques and abilities.

Film Trailer Brief

  1. I like how've thought about the genre when thinking about the settings you will use. The cellar gives a good horror setting.
I like how it's based on a true story aswell!

  2. I think that the concept of the film is really good, and its good how it is also based on a true story, as this makes the film seem even scarier.

  3. I like the cellar location that you are going to use as it creates the right, spooky atmosphere and also, it creates realism as it is based on a true story. However, if some shots needed to be re-shot it could be difficult as it's far away!

  4. I would be very wary of basing your filming in Nottingham, by all means shoot some footage if you are up there but I would suggest using the Crowstone road address as your main location.
    You need to:
    1. Freeze frame some stills from the films that have influenced you.
    2. Note down the codes and conventions of horror trailers and decide which ones you are going to use.
    3. Storyboard your trailer, film it as an animnatic and write a shot list of the shots you will need to film.
    4. Get filming.

  5. I think the story sounds very interesting and the location sounds like the perfect setting. The only drawback is that the location may be difficult to reach for Re-shoots, so maybe find another backup location incase anything falls through? Sounds like a good idea though!
