Welcome to my A2 Media Studies Blog. Here I will present my research and planning for my production of a promotional film trailer alongside two ancillary products; a poster and a magazine cover, where I have tried to incorporate typical codes and conventions of existing media products. On the right hand side is a link to my Foundation Portfolio where you can see my skills development throughout the course, as I adopted new techniques and abilities.

2. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts? - video

The poster I produced does not reveal too much of the trailer or the film, encouraging more people to research it. The image used hints at danger and will be of interest to those that enjoy horror films. The font used on the poster also suggests danger and appears as though it has be carved or scratched into the poster, making people question how it got there. This enigma will influence those who are interested in the horror genre to look up the film or see it in the cinema.

The image on the cover of the magazine immediately suggests that the genre of the film will be horror as there are similarities between the picture used and existing media products. The positive reviews in magazine then ensure more people are likely to see the film as they would trust a professional's opinion.
The trailer will encourage people to watch the movie as it is likely to be shown in the cinema during films of similar genre, and therefore will be aimed at the correct target audience. It also creates an enigma to make the audience want to see the film and find out what happens to the character featured and why she is there, as little of the storyline is revealed.

The combination of the three are effective as they all use the same character and it is clear they are related, they have a similar dark theme throughout that is often used in horror films and their promotions, and the poster and magazine are an encouragement as an advertisement for horror film fans to look into the film and watch the trailer.

The poster and magazine support the trailer and encourage people to watch it or read more into the film with the use of the same character throughout. This ensures that all three are clearly for the same film and gives the film an effective image among its target audience.

3. What have you learned from your audience feedback?

I interviewed members of my target audience in order to get feedback on the products I created. (analysis in annotations)
